Duotrope’s Digest is a donation-supported brilliant market listing site that features them all, no matter how small. It also features the ability to track your submissions, information the site then uses to provide statistical details for each market, even ranking them by quickest and slowest response, and easiest and toughest acceptance rates. Also provides a weekly e-mail to update market statuses.

John Labovitz’s E-Zine-List We recommend browsing by keywords. The site has a few bugs, but it also has a large number of listings.

Craigslist is a page of free online classified ads where you can find or sell almost anything. Go to the main page, click the name of your city (in the bar on the right), and then look under both “jobs” and “gigs” to find work for writers. Many freelancers swear by this site, but listings should be approached with significant caution and an eye for “too good to be true.”

The Writer’s Market handbook, in its various forms, continues to be one of the most important, if not the most important, tool a new publishing author can own. We cannot recommend it too highly.

Writer’s Market Online At $29.99/year and $3.99/month, it’s cheap if you’re looking on the short time, or prefer the convenience of an electronic index.

The Writer’s Market Companion The ultimate writer’s guide – covering everything from the business of writing (print and online) to the craft of it, we can’t recommend this book enough.

Ralan’s Webstravaganza has thorough listings, including contests and notification of now-dead markets.

PoeWar is an online magazine for working writers (or writers who want to find work). Most of its articles and job listings target poets and authors of nonfiction, but some tenets of writing are universal. As a bonus, the “Money Roll” section provides information on how to avoid scams and general council on money management. The rest of the site is just as informative, and their articles section is stellar.

The Write Market is an exceptionally well organized database of markets and publishers. It is currently a little short on listings, but what listings there are can be searched by category, and within the category may be sorted alphabetically, by date, or by rating.

The Rose and Thorn E-zine Don’t be mislead by the fiction; this site covers a great deal, especially in its Craft of Writing section (menu is located at the bottom of the page). The author interviews are also excellent.

The Market List (sci-fi/fantasy/horror) After extended hiatus, the website is undergoing a thorough update, and it’s well organized and easy to navigate. Articles, interviews, and reviews as well.
